"Where are you now, Leos Carax?" That was the question the Pompidou Center posed to the filmmaker for an exhibition that never came to fruition. The idea, however, endured and this autobiographical medium-length film attempts to answer the question through a collage that fondly evokes the aesthetics of Jean-Luc Godard and reviews more than 40 years of Carax's filmography, mixing scenes from his films, classic tapes, home videos, photographs and recovering iconic characters such as Monsieur Merde. Dynamic, playful and dreamlike, Carax makes this self-portrait a poetic essay on power, politics and image-making that is at once ironic and playful, anarchic and deeply personal.
